CarrieOn Foundation Volunteers Bring Holiday Cheer Through Bag Assembly for the Homeless

This week, the spirit of giving was alive and well as the CarrieOn Foundation’s dedicated volunteers gathered to assemble 250 CarrieOn bags—each destined to bring comfort, hope, and a touch of holiday magic to individuals experiencing homelessness in Solano County. The scene was nothing short of heartwarming: Christmas music filled the air, volunteers exchanged laughter and smiles, and a little dancing added to the festive atmosphere.

The task was monumental but tackled with love. Each CarrieOn bag was carefully packed with essentials, including socks, hand warmers, gloves, blankets, beanie caps, deodorant, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. Many bags were adorned with a tiny pink ribbon to signify “Female” bags, thoughtfully including feminine hygiene supplies to address specific needs.

A highlight of the assembly process was the inclusion of three home-baked cookies in each bag—a CarrieOn tradition that adds a personal and heartfelt touch. This seemingly simple gesture required a massive effort: 750 cookies, all baked within 24 hours of distribution. Volunteers answered the call with enthusiasm, transforming their kitchens into cookie factories to ensure each bag carried not only necessities but also a small taste of holiday cheer.

“It’s not just about the cookies,” said one volunteer with a flour-dusted apron and a twinkle in their eye. “It’s about showing the people who receive these bags that someone cares, that they’re seen and valued. That’s what makes this effort so meaningful.”

The assembly line was a symphony of teamwork. Some volunteers carefully rolled blankets, others sorted hygiene items, and still more tied pink ribbons with precision and care. Children joined in the fun, adding their energy and excitement, while seasoned volunteers shared tips and stories from previous years. With Christmas classics like Jingle Bell Rock and All I Want for Christmas Is You playing in the background, the atmosphere was filled with joy and camaraderie.

“Being here and doing this together is such a beautiful experience,” one volunteer shared. “It’s a reminder of how much good we can do as a community. It’s not work—it’s pure joy.”

After six hours of packing, 250 CarrieOn bags stood ready to be distributed. All that remained was for additional volunteers to arrive, pick up their designated bags, and prepare for this weekend’s distribution. The bags, packed with care and hope, are set to brighten the days of those in need and serve as a tangible reminder of the compassion that binds the community together.

The CarrieOn Foundation’s mission is clear: to honor the legacy of Carrie Foley by spreading kindness and support to those who need it most. Every bag represents not just items but a message of love and dignity.

If you missed out on this assembly but want to get involved, the foundation is always seeking support. Every $50 donation funds one CarrieOn bag, filled with essentials and topped with those signature cookies that bring a smile to recipients and givers alike.

As the holiday season continues, consider making a contribution or volunteering your time to carry on Carrie’s legacy. Together, we can create more moments of joy and ensure no one feels forgotten. Visit carrieon.org to learn more and make a difference today.
